The energy efficiency laboratory

Today the opening of the energy efficiency laboratory took place at Yerevan State University of Architecture and Construction (YSUAC) with participation of Aram Harutyunyan, Minister of Nature Protection, Sophie Kemkhadze, UNDP Officer-in-Charge, and Hovhannes Tokmajyan, Rector of YSUAC.

The laboratory, which is founded within the framework of the “Improving Energy Efficiency in Buildings” UNDP-GEF project, is equipped with modern measuring equipment and devices, enabling practical and on job training of students on assessing buildings’ energy performance and energy efficiency.

Available for the first time in Armenia, these modern devices facilitate evaluation of meteorological and thermo-physical data related to energy efficiency of buildings. Aiming to prepare highly qualified professionals in the field of building design and construction, the partners agreed to provide access to the laboratory for students of relevant specialties from other Universities as well, providing them with the opportunity to get acquainted with measures and analyses conducted to improve the energy efficiency of buildings on practice. The total value of twelve types of equipment and devices procured by the project and provided to YSUAC is over USD 24,000.

In the scope of the partnership between UNDP and YSUAC, a number of activities are conducted on a continuous basis with the goal to prepare qualified professionals in the area of energy efficiency. In particular, the project provides its expertise for the development and introduction of tutorials, manuals and guides, and upgrading curricula with specific modules focusing on energy efficiency and integrated building design.

“Improving Energy Efficiency in Buildings” UNDP-GEF project is implemented under coordination of  Ministry of Nature Protection and Ministry of Urban Development since 2010 and supports development and upgrade of energy efficient norms, professional development of specialists in the sector, demonstration of energy efficient building design advantages, and enhancing production of new energy saving materials and devices.
