UNDP and Impact Hub Proud to Announce Armenian Finalist in Accelerate 2030

Highlighting the role of impact-driven enterprises towards a better world

Yerevan, 13 September 2016 - UNDP and Impact Hub are proud to announce that one entrepreneur from Armenia is among the five international finalists of their joint Accelerate2030 initiative; aimed at supporting impact-driven ventures that contribute towards the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.

For the first edition of Accelerate2030, 177 applications were submitted by ventures from 10 countries across 4 continents, in sectors ranging from access to education, health services, agriculture, sanitation and deforestation. Within Armenia, 20 applications were submitted and the three national finalists were: Dasaran Educational Program, News Deeply, and ONEArmenia.

Out of 29 national finalists from 10 countries, an international jury selected five ventures that clearly contribute towards the SDGs, have proven their business models locally and are ready to scale internationally. Including the finalist from Armenia, Dasaran Educational Program, the five international finalists are:

Agruppa from Colombia

Agruppa leverages mobile phone technology to empower small food vendors in low income neighborhoods by providing them with fruits and vegetables at wholesale prices.

Dasaran Educational Program from Armenia

Dasaran Educational Program is a comprehensive e-learning, cloud-based portal integrating technology and gamification with educational modules to provide equal access to education for all children in Armenia regardless of their gender, social background, disability or other aspects. They currently serve 1 million students, teachers, parents and policy makers. They currently serve 1 million students, teachers, parents and policy makers.

Diseclar from Colombia

Thanks to their inventive manufacturing process Diseclar is able to turn waste materials into stylish furniture that can be used indoors and outdoors. By using non-degradable plastic and vegetable fibers from agro-industrial waste sites, they are able to create a product that looks and feels like solid wood.

Ignitia from Ghana

Ignitia is a high-technology company and social enterprise that has recently developed the world’s first highly accurate tropical weather forecast model. They benefit small-scale farmers in West Africa by sending a daily forecast via SMS, provided in partnership with major telecommunication firms.

ProtERA Farms from Mali

PROTERA offers sustainable larvae protein feed for poultry and fish. Their mission is to introduce insect farming in order to offer sustainable protein for both feed and food markets.

The international jury Geneva was comprised of Artak Melkonyan (UNDP), Corinne Namblard (UNECE), Jonathan Normand (Codethic), Katherine Milligan (Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship) and Mukul Kumar (Impact Hub Geneva).

Each of the five finalists will be invited to Switzerland to partake in a two-day International Scaling Bootcamp and benefit from a service package offered by UNDP, Impact Hub and partners (including the International Trade Center (ITC)).

They will also attend the inaugural Social Good Summit Geneva - a closed door event welcoming speakers and attendees from financial institutions, incubators, impact investors, international development organisations and fellow entrepreneurs to explore synergies in supporting impact-driven ventures scale and expand their social and environmental impact.

Speakers include The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, MasterCard,  Quadia, UBS Optimus Foundation, The Schwab Foundation for Social Entrepreneurship, The Calvert Foundation and Lombard Odier.

The participating countries in Accelerate2030 - 2016 edition are Armenia, Brazil, Colombia, Ghana, Malaysia, Mali, the Philippines, Sudan, Venezuela and Russia.
