UNDP and Yerevan Municipality Discuss New Avenues for Partnership

Today, UNDP Delegation, led by UN Resident Coordinator, UNDP Resident Representative in Armenia Bradley Busetto, met with Mayor of Yerevan Taron Margaryan. The parties discussed the directions of further cooperation for introduction of energy efficient approaches in daily practices within the context of city's further development paths.

Greeting the guest and stressing the importance of close cooperation with UNDP in Armenia, Mayor of Yerevan Taron Margaryan stressed that as a result of teamwork a number of programs had been successfully accomplished, and are in process of implementation. “Currently Yerevan Municipality carries out active cooperation in various spheres of urban economy with several international organizations, including UNDP. The Municipality is ready to discuss new mutually beneficial proposals for expansion of cooperation. We also hope that current programs will be continuous. In this regard, the memorandum to be signed between Yerevan Municipality and UNDP will promote cooperation and help to outline directions for further activities”, stressed Taron Margaryan.

UN Resident Coordinator, UNDP Resident Representative in Armenia Bradley Busetto thanked for the meeting and the willingness to further develop cooperation programs, and expressed hope that the partnership between UNDP and Yerevan Municipality will become more closer. “As a result of our jointly implemented programs, we managed to find optimal solutions in various spheres. In particular, within the scope of energy efficient pilot projects, today we can witness energy saving of about 60 percent. We are also confident that the Statement of Intent will give a new impulse to our cooperation and provide expected results”, said Bradley Busetto.

The parties signed a Statement of Intent in the framework of UNDP-GCF “De-risking and Scaling-up Investment in Energy Efficient Retrofits” project on a number of demonstration projects for achieving higher energy performance of public facilities in the city.
