Green School Concept in Armenia

On 3 December 2015, in the frames of the joint initiative of UNDP and the British Embassy in Armenia, UNDP in Armenia hosted a round table discussion with major decision makers on green school concept in Armenia in relation with the upcoming school rehabilitation project funded by Asian Development Bank.

Relevant experience from UK on energy efficient school buildings construction/rehabilitation was presented by the invited international expert – Ms. Kirsty Maguire, Director and Lead Architect, Certified Passivhaus Designer of KMA Ltd., UK. Representatives of UNDP, ADB, UNICEF, UK Embassy and AUA along with national counterparts from the Ministries of Education and Science, of Territorial Administration and Emergency Situations, of Urban Development, and of Energy and Natural Resources took part in the event and exchanged opinions.

During the event, the exemplary aseismic energy efficient school pre-design and concept developed in the frames of "Improving Energy Efficiency in Buildings" UNDP-GEF project was presented and discussed. The "Green Architecture: Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy" bilingual textbook produced by the mentioned project was distributed to the meeting participants.
