UN RC/UNDP RR and Ambassador of Finland visited Tavush region

Today, Bradley Busetto, UN Resident Coordinator/UNDP Resident Representative in Armenia, and Ambassador of Finland Christer Michelsson visited Tavush region and got familiarized with the works implemented within the framework of UNDP Aid for Trade project.

During the meeting with Armen Ghularyan, Governor of Tavush region, it was noted that hundreds of projects have been implemented in the region by UNDP since independence. The Governor stressed the need of new projects aimed at creation of jobs. He attached great importance to the establishment of greenhouses which produce not only guaranteed results and stable income to the farmers but also create opportunities for marketing their products. In this regard, the Governor recommended continuing expansion of greenhouses and dried fruit production facilities, as well as establishing a union or an association - a structure that will promote and support sales and marketing of agricultural goods.

Bradley Busetto noted that he was impressed with the development projects carried out in the region and praised the regional administration’s active involvement in tackling challenges in the region.

Following the discussion at the Governor’s office, visits were made to UNDP project sites. The first stop was at cheese production unit in Koti village, which produces 6,000 kg of cheese annually. The guests got familiarised with the workshop capacities and tasted the produced cheese. In Ayrum community, the guests visited dried fruit production facility that has been provided with two solar dryers and an electric dryer. They also visited Ptghavan community that has seventeen greenhouses established with the support of Aide for Trade project. The last stop was in Bagratashen, where a fruit collection centre will be established soon. A cold storage, packing and other required equipment will be provided to the facility.

Summarizing the results of the visit, UN RC/UNDP RR and Ambassador of Finland expressed satisfaction with the works carried out by UNDP in Tavush region.
