A breakthrough discussion on the role of Social Entrepreneurship & Impact Investments for International Development Organisations was held on 13 July in Geneva. Presenters Prof. Hans Wahl from INSEAD, Katherine Milligan from Schwab Foundation and Artak Melkonyan from UNDP, elaborated on significance of impact investments and social entrepreneurship for developing economies, approaches the development organisations choose to support them and upcoming dedicated conference in March 2017 invited by UNDP and INSEAD in Yerevan, Armenia.
Winners of the #inno4health Social Innovation Camp

Since 2011, UNDP has been organizing social innovation camps in an effort to locate innovative tech solutions that will help to solve issues that exist in different sectors of Armenia. Social Innovation Camps gather people, ideas and digital technologies in one place. Over the course of two days, business prototypes or models of embryonic ideas are cultivated and developed. The camp transforms these theoretical ideas into precise solutions by uniting people from different walks of life. Designers, programmers, marketing gurus, media and SMM specialists all come together to co-create technological solutions to specific social challenges.
Armenia to address energy efficiency in buildings through a USD 20 million grant

Eight new public sector project proposals have been discussed at the thirteenth meeting of the Green Climate Fund (GCF) Board in Songdo, Republic of Korea. On June 29th the Board approved a USD 20 million grant proposal from Armenia, “De Risking and Scaling-up Investment in Energy Efficient Building Retrofits”, developed and presented by UNDP as an accredited implementing entity to the Fund.
A Passive Solar Greenhouse in Shirak Region

On 1 July 2016 UN Resident Coordinator/UNDP Resident Representative in Armenia Bradley Busetto and Ambassador of Romania to Armenia Sorin Vasile signed an agreement to implement the “Alternative Growing: Piloting Passive Solar Greenhouse Project in Shirak Region of Armenia” project to be implemented in Shirak region of Armenia. The Government of Romania contributed USD 60,000 for the implementation of the project.

Temperatures around the world are rising. The average increase globally stands at 0.850C but in Armenia, that figure is higher still – 1.10C. Rainfall and other precipitation have also gone down in Armenia by 10% between 1935 and 2012. According to a study by the World Bank, Armenia, out of 28 countries in Europe and Central Asia, is the fourth most likely to experience an increase in extreme weather conditions. Out of the same group, it is the fifth most sensitive country to climate change.

Yerevan, Armenia – The U.S. Embassy, Delegation of the European Union to Armenia, British Embassy, OSCE Office in Yerevan, Council of Europe Office in Yerevan and the United Nations Armenia Office honoured individuals working to promote human rights, accountable governance, rule of law, local government reform, rights of women, inclusion and free speech in Armenia at the Universal Rights Awards Ceremony at the Congress Hotel in Yerevan. Since 2012, the Universal Rights Awards Ceremony was the first initiative of the international community to highlight contributions of Armenia’s civil and political rights activists, government officials, media and civil society representatives to the promotion of human rights. Armenian officials, foreign diplomats, civil society and press representatives attended the event.

11 April 2016 – Today, Bradley Busetto, UN Resident Coordinator/UNDP Resident Representative in Armenia, and Edward Nalbandian, Foreign Minister of the Republic of Armenia, in the presence of Jeffrey Feltman, United Nations Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs, signed the UNDP Country Programme Action Plan between the Government of the Republic of Armenia and UNDP for 2016-2020.
