Mitigating the consequences of hailstorms in Armenia’s agricultural sector

A trilateral Statement of Intent was signed between ACBA-CREDIT AGRICOLE BANK, the UNDP in Armenia and ARNAP Foundation – the National Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction. The sides agreed to jointly mitigate the consequences of hailstorms in Armenia’s agricultural sector. Within the framework of the agreement, ACBA-CREDIT AGRICOLE BANK will provide targeted loans to farmers for the acquisition of anti-hail nets on a 7-year term, with an initial interest rate of 12,5 percent. In its turn, the UNDP in Armenia will provide 20 percent of necessary volume of the anti-hail nets to farmers as a grant contribution. The ARNAP Foundation, supports farmers in measuring and installation of supporting anchors and anti-hail nets, as well as provides with consultations on maintenance, usage and care of anti-hail nets.

Supporting Electoral Processes in Armenia

Yerevan, 2 December 2016 - Today, UN Resident Coordinator, UNDP Resident Representative in Armenia Bradley Busetto and Ambassador of Germany to Armenia Matthias Kiesler signed a cost-sharing agreement for the “Support to the Electoral Project in Armenia” (SEPA) project. The project is also supported by three other donors, the EU, US and UK, and the Government of Armenia. The project will support the introduction of voter authentication technology for the 2017 April parliamentary elections in Armenia.

On 25 November, the world observes the International Day Against Violence. This day also marks the start of a global awareness raising campaign - the 16 Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence Campaign - that runs annually from 25 November to 10 December. Violence against women and girls remains one of the most serious human rights violations. This understanding is reflected in the new global 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development; Goal Five on gender equality has a stand-alone target to end all forms of violence against all women by 2030.
Round Table Discussion on Legislation, Policy and Institutional Frameworks of Environmental Education in Armenia

On November 23, 2016 in the scope of UNDP-GEF “Generate global environmental benefits through environmental education and raising awareness of stakeholders” project a workshop was organized in Yerevan, Armenia. The kick-off workshop was aimed at providing a platform for discussion of draft findings on legislative, policy and institutional aspects of Environmental Education (EE) as a tool for ensuring compliance with multilateral environmental agreements. The workshop was attended by more than 50 stakeholders representing key ministries, governmental and educational institutions, international and non-governmental organizations.
