Building resilience in mountain ecosystems of Gegharkunik region

02 June 2017 – Restored and newly established forest belts, rehabilitated pasture infrastructures, among which mobile paddocks with equipped solar power systems – these are some of the achievements of the Clima East Pilot Project in Armenia, financed by the European Union (EU) and implemented by UNDP, which aims to enhance resilience to climate change risks and impacts in mountain ecosystems and local communities in Gegharkunik region. Today, Armen Harutyunyan, Deputy Minister of Agriculture, Dmitry Mariyasin, UNDP Resident Representative a.i. in Armenia, representatives of regional and local community administrations, as well as media visited Tsovak community of Gegharkunik region to observe the newly established forest plantation site and to participate in the demonstration of the innovative mobile paddocks provided to four target communities.
Integrated Rural Tourism Development Project Announced the Launch of the “Bridge” Network

Yerevan, 30 May 2017 – Today, the “Integrated Rural Tourism Development” project, financed by the Government of the Russian Federation and implemented by the UNDP in Armenia, announced the official launch of the “Bridge” Network. “Bridge” is a network of private companies in the tourism industry that enables the participants to facilitate open dialogue and discuss priorities and approaches to rural tourism development, exchange their viewpoints and experience, and come up with recommendations in relation to new rural tour products to be created.
Hayanist Unveils Innovative Irrigation System

Hayanist, Armenia – During a public event on May 22, the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the Coca-Cola Hellenic Bottling Company Armenia (CCHBCA), and the Global Environment Facility’s Small Grants Programme in Armenia (implemented by UNDP) marked the successful completion of a joint water project in Hayanist, Ararat. This is part of USAID’s broader efforts to curb the rate of groundwater abstraction in the Ararat Valley to sustainable levels.

At the core of this year’s theme are two inseparable concepts: inclusion and human dignity. These concepts are also at the heart of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which commits to leaving no behind.
Impact Hub and UNDP launch the 2017 edition of Accelerate2030

This year, ventures from 17 developing countries across 4 continents are encouraged to apply to this unique acceleration program: Armenia, Brasil, Cambodia, Colombia, Ghana, Guatemala, Malaysia, Mali, Mexico, Myanmar, Philippines, Rwanda, South Africa, Turkey, Ukraine, Venezuela, and Zimbabwe. The ventures must have successful track record and contribute to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals.
Mitigating the consequences of hailstorms in Armenia’s agricultural sector

A trilateral Statement of Intent was signed between ACBA-CREDIT AGRICOLE BANK, the UNDP in Armenia and ARNAP Foundation – the National Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction. The sides agreed to jointly mitigate the consequences of hailstorms in Armenia’s agricultural sector. Within the framework of the agreement, ACBA-CREDIT AGRICOLE BANK will provide targeted loans to farmers for the acquisition of anti-hail nets on a 7-year term, with an initial interest rate of 12,5 percent. In its turn, the UNDP in Armenia will provide 20 percent of necessary volume of the anti-hail nets to farmers as a grant contribution. The ARNAP Foundation, supports farmers in measuring and installation of supporting anchors and anti-hail nets, as well as provides with consultations on maintenance, usage and care of anti-hail nets.
