  • Green Lighting Week – Showing Yerevan in a Whole New Light Oct 23, 2017

    The UNDP-GEF "Green Urban Lighting" project, in partnership with the RA Ministry of Nature Protection and Yerevan Municipality, organises a Yerevan Green Lighting Week on 23-27 October aimed at raising public awareness about energy-efficient and environmentally-friendly lighting solutions. The campaign is in line with the UN Sustainable Development Goals #7 (Affordable and Clean Energy) and #13 (Climate Action). Today, Erik Grigoryan, First Deputy Minister of Nature Protection, Dmitry Mariyasin, UNDP Deputy Resident Representative in Armenia, and Vardan Gabrielyan, Director of the “Yerevan City Light” CJSC of Yerevan Municipality, took part in the kick-off event of the awareness campaign.

  • Developing rural tourism through engaging local community Oct 16, 2017

    On the first weekend of October, the Integrated Rural Tourism Development project initiated a Fam Trip (familiarization trip) for tour operators. The main idea of the trip was to show tour operators new spots, guest houses in Bjni in order for them to attract and bring tourists here. This way local community members will actively engage in rural tourism development process, thus creating alternative income generating tool for sustainable living.

  • International Conference “Resilience Building for Sustainable Development” kicked-off in Yerevan Oct 11, 2017

    Today, a 3-day international conference entitled “Resilience Building for Sustainable Development” has kicked-off in Yerevan, ahead of the International Day for Disaster Reduction marked on 13 October. The overall objective of the conference is to boost dialogue and awareness on disaster risk reduction (DRR) in the Europe and the CIS region and beyond, as well as strengthen political commitment of key actors for sustainable, risk-informed DRR efforts.

    Simplified procedures and reduced waiting times, modern infrastructure and equipment, and improved security – these are only a few of the advantages that the new border crossing point (BCP) in Bavra will provide to citizens of Armenia. Moreover, it will enhance Armenia’s connectivity through promoting international trade, transit and tourism. Today, Serzh Sargsyan, President of the Republic of Armenia, Vardan Harutyunyan, Chairman of the RA State Revenue Committee, Ambassador Piotr Antoni Świtalski, Head of the European Union (EU) Delegation to Armenia, Bradley Busetto, UN Resident Coordinator/UNDP Resident Representative in Armenia, Sébastien Husson de Sampigny, Head of the European Investment Bank (EIB) Regional Representation for the South Caucasus, representatives of government agencies responsible for border management, as well as international organizations, diplomatic corps and media attended the official opening ceremony of the Bavra BCP within the framework of EU-funded and UNDP implemented project on “Modernisation of Bagratashen, Bavra and Gogavan Border Crossing Points of Armenia” (MBBG).

  • Remodeling Rural Tourism Infrastructure through Education Sep 25, 2017

    The Integrated Rural Tourism Development project, financed by the Government of the Russian Federation and implemented by the UNDP in Armenia, is currently entering a new phase which aims to train and educate rural communities throughout Armenia. One of the core goals of the project is to establish destination management system in rural areas and educate local people on how to identify their communities as a tourist attraction. This will allow local communities to create income-generating tourism activities for sustainable living.

  • The Government and UNDP address forest and wildfire in Armenia Sep 12, 2017

    Today, Bradley Busetto, UN Resident Coordinator, UNDP Resident Representative in Armenia, and Artsvik Minasyan, RA Minister of Nature Protection, signed a document to initiate the project “Addressing climate change impact through enhanced capacity for wildfires management in Armenia”, funded by the Russian Federation. Ivan Volynkin, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Armenia, was also present at the signing ceremony. The budget of the three-year project is USD 1 million.

  • Energy efficiency of the building sector in the focus of the UNDP and the Government of Armenia Aug 31, 2017

    The United Nations Development Programme led – Green Climate Fund funded (UNDP-GCF) “De-risking and Scaling-up Investment in Energy Efficient Retrofits” project seeks to systematically de-carbonize the existing building stock in Armenia and reduce GHG emissions, while achieving sustainable development benefits. It is envisaged to ensure about 50-60 percent energy saving through buildings thermal insulation, thus resulting in budget savings and contributing to country’s energy security. Today, the inception workshop of the Project took place in the “Tigran Mets” hall of the Marriott Hotel. The goal of the workshop was to present the main objectives and planned activities of the Project, as well as the existing international experience and achievements in the building sector for enhancing energy efficiency.

  • Modernising Energy Efficiency of Public and Multi-Apartment Buildings Jul 7, 2017

    The official signing ceremony of the United Nations Development Programme – Green Climate Fund (UNDP-GCF) “De-risking and Scaling-up Investment in Energy Efficient Retrofits” project took place today in the RA Ministry of Nature Protection. The project is the 10th signed by the GCF globally and the first one in the Eurasian region. It is developed in close cooperation with the RA Ministry of Nature Protection, Yerevan Municipality and other stakeholder ministries in the grant amount of USD 20 million. The project document was signed by Bradley Busetto, UN Resident Coordinator, UNDP Resident Representative in Armenia and Artsvik Minasyan, RA Minister of Nature Protection. The ceremony was also attended by the Yerevan First Deputy Mayor Kamo Areyan, as well as representatives of stakeholder ministries and agencies, international and non-governmental organizations.
