UNDP in Armenia forms partnerships with a wide range of donors and development partners, including multilateral and bilateral donors, international and local NGOs, as well as the private sector.
Partnership is at the heart of everything UNDP does. Being a trusted development partner, UNDP works in an open, impartial and transparent manner with all its partners, in line with the internationally recognized UN norms, values, standards and good practices. These valuable assets, in addition to our presence, innovation and reliability, make us a partner of choice to support the long-term sustainable development in Armenia.
The European Union is a strategic partner of UNDP to deliver on the Agenda 2030 and its Sustainable Development Goals. Together with the EU, we change people’s lives through strengthening democratic institutions, making electoral processes free, fair and transparent, having a better access to justice, protecting human rights, and addressing climate change issues.
As part of the landmark Partnership Framework Agreement signed with the UNDP in January 2015, the Government of the Russian Federation is generously funding our activities aimed at development of rural tourism, and enhancing wildfire management capacities in Armenia. The Russian Federation is also supporting 45 borderline communities in Tavush region of Armenia in development planning, through direct engagement and participation of local population, rehabilitation of community infrastructures with focus on energy efficiency, as well as enterprise development, including construction of small greenhouses, small-scale contemporary agro-processing units, collection centres, etc.
UNDP acknowledge the role and strong backing of international financial institutions (IFIs) and foundations for UNDP’s activities at global and country levels. UNDP in Armenia has a history of successfully partnered with the EU’s Bank - European Investment Bank to modernise Armenia’s three border crossing points with Georgia, while in partnership with the EIB and with the financial support of the Green Climate Fund UNDP is improving energy efficiency of public and residential buildings in Yerevan.
UNDP also partners with the world’s largest public funder of environmental projects – the Global Environment Facility (GEF), which is also the financial mechanism for the UN Rio Conventions and other multilateral agreements.
UNDP supports Armenia to achieve sustainable development through partnerships with the Governments of UK, Germany, Japan, and Poland, the USAID, Swiss Development Cooperation, Austrian Development Agency, and GIZ, as well as explores and invests in areas where it believes there is a lot of scope for transformative change.
UNDP also highly values the partnership with the private sector, civil society organizations and media to contribute to development of Armenia by fostering innovation, promoting social entrepreneurship and impact investment, as well as engaging them in programme implementation and public advocacy.
